Don’t forget First Aid!! According to the A2B NOR: “At least two members of the crew shall hold a First Aid Certificate (dated within the past 24 months) and should be familiar with the management of medical emergencies that may occur at sea including hypothermia, and communications procedures for obtaining medical advice by radio or satellite telephone.”
The Chesapeake Area Professional Captains Association (CAPCA) offers CPR/First Aid Certification, as well as several other courses that would be of interest to serious sailors including Emergency Management at Sea, Medical Emergencies at Sea (Beyond First Aid), Marine Radio Operator Permit (MROP), etc. For course details see www.capca.net/education.asp.
Other sources for CPR/First Aid Certification are the American Heart Association & the Red Cross.
